O2 Ireland
selects Redknee WLAN security and payment system
Dublin, Ireland (December 3, 2002) -- Redknee Inc. today announced that O2 Ireland, one of Ireland's leading mobile communications providers, has selected Redknee to supply a comprehensive, real-time WLAN billing, authentication, and security system. With the Redknee solution, O2 Ireland will be the first network operator in Europe to offer secure wireless broadband access using a wide range of convenient payment options from designated Wi-Fi Zones(tm). As part of the agreement, Redknee has also provided O2 Ireland with complete end-to-end WLAN integration services. Redknee has been actively providing O2 Ireland with revenue-generating mobile solutions that can be easily integrated into their network. With this latest network deployment, the Synaxis-2100(tm) WLAN Gateway, O2 Ireland can offer various payment options to mobile subscribers and casual users. Postpaid customers have the option to charge WLAN services to their monthly invoice; prepaid customers can charge these services to their accounts; and casual users (as well as postpaid and prepaid subscribers) have the option to purchase a "scratch card" or voucher at each Wi-Fi(tm) hotspot. Rating for all accounts will be provided on a real-time basis by Redknee's Synaxis-2100(tm) Unified Rating Service (URS).
Redknee's proven suite of service applications integrates seamlessly and securely with existing mobile network infrastructure and easily scales to support a rapidly expanding base of customers and applications. Redknee solutions accelerate the development and adoption of revenue-generating mobile network services through 3GPP/2 Open Services Access (OSA) and Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Web-Services based architectures. Redknee's extensible services platforms feature open object-oriented API's which facilitate the rapid and economic deployment of new capabilities in mobile as well as fixed networks resulting in accelerated pay-back periods and superior ROIs.
Redknee's commercially deployed suite of service applications includes Messaging, Mobile Profile, Payment, and Service Control solutions.
"Redknee is pleased to contribute to the success of O2 Ireland's WLAN services launch" says Chris Newton-Smith, Managing Director, Redknee Europe. "Redknee's WLAN Gateway provides O2 with the flexibility to offer a variety of payment options, and also expands the capabilities of existing OSS and BSS systems already deployed in their network."
O2 Ireland foresees significant growth for WLAN services, particularly in the business market. "Critical to WLAN's success is easy-to-use payment options and secure access to corporate data," said Tony Dempsey, WLAN Programme Manager, O2 Ireland. "We chose Redknee's WLAN system because it offers multiple payment options, including scratch cards, credit cards, and account billing. It also guarantees secure Internet and corporate Intranet access through advanced non-repudiation and authentication procedures."
