Borland and Redknee Expand Wireless Application Development for JavaTM
Redknee to Integrate Borland® Technology for Next Generation Wireless Applications
CTIA, Orlando - March 20, 2002 -- Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq NM: BORL) today announced Canadian company Redknee Inc., a leading provider of mobile applications deployed in 15 2G+ and 3G mobile networks around the world, plans to integrate Borland® JBuilderTM, the market leading JavaTM development environment, with its Open Services Architecture (OSA) software based framework, OASISTM. This integration brings together the best of the Java development and wireless software worlds, offering Java developers the ability to create advanced mobile applications that leverage valuable features of mobile networks such as messaging, location, presence and billing capabilities. Today's announcement extends Redknee's involvement as a Borland partner. Previously, Redknee integrated Borland® Enterprise Server, VisiBroker® Edition, which fully supports CORBA®, into its OASISTM product that enables developers to build feature-rich wireless applications for multiple networks with open Parlay standards-based application programming interfaces (API).
"The integration of JBuilder Enterprise into OASISTM simplifies wireless application development and significantly enhances developers' ability to deliver next generation mobile applications," said Duncan Ratcliffe, Chief Executive Officer, Redknee Inc. "Java developers can extend their expertise on JBuilder to the wireless environment by using Redknee's API's for connectivity."
Since both Borland JBuilder and Redknee's OASISTM are open standards based technologies, integration of these technologies will enable external third party developers to create more advanced and varied applications that can be tailored to the needs of telecom customers. Using standard open software technologies also widens the market for applications and reduces the cost to customers.
"Borland is a recognized leader in Java technology for mobile and wireless application development," said John Fisher, President of Borland Canada. "Working with Redknee furthers Borland's commitment to the growing market for mobile development for Java and our goal of providing a complete development environment across multiple wireless platforms."
