Industry Leaders Drive Highest Scalability on SQL Server 2012 For Converged Billing Subscribers

Redknee, Microsoft, Intel, NEC, X-IO Address Most Demanding Scalability, Performance And Cost-Efficiency Requirements For Communications Sector At SQL Server 2012 Launch
TORONTO – May 16, 2012 Redknee (TSX:RKN), a leading provider of business-critical billing and charging software and solutions for communications service providers, is pleased to announce that it has set a new standard in telecoms converged billing built on SQL Server 2012. With Microsoft Corp., NEC, Intel and X-IO, Redknee’s billing and customer care solution, TCB on SQL Server 2012, has surpassed the largest benchmark test results in the telecom industry to 250 million subscribers, while also reducing the database cost of ownership to less than one cent per subscriber. This announcement further validates the collaboration and focus of Redknee and Microsoft to forge new ground in delivering solutions that provide communication service providers (CSPs) with enhanced business agility and flexibility in the market.

TCB built on SQL Server 2012, which was launched in April 2012, delivers CSPs the ability to save with a reduced upfront database investment and to substantially lower costs over the life of the system. As part of their strategic alliance, Redknee and Microsoft conducted a comprehensive performance and scalability benchmark of Redknee TCB running on SQL Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Intel® Xeon® processor-based servers. The tests, designed to simulate the requirements of a typical Tier-1 communications service provider, also included NEC Express5800/A1080a scalable servers, three high performance X-IO Hyper ISEs with a hybrid HDD and SSD solution for the databases and indices, and a X-IO HDD-based ISE 19.2 solution for transaction logs.

Calculations based on the criteria below indicate that the cost of the database hardware, software, storage and maintenance fees is less than 1 cent per subscriber. The criteria for this conclusion include:
• Lower hardware costs: SQL Server 2012 runs on Intel Xeon processor-based server hardware, which can dramatically lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) for customers when compared with the largest competitor.
• Lower software costs: The list price of SQL Server 2012, including critical features such as high availability, disaster recovery, and data compression, is a third of the largest competitor’s licensing costs.
• Simpler systems management and lower staffing costs: SQL Server database administrators (DBAs) can typically manage four times as many physical databases as DBAs using competitors’ solutions, leading to an estimated 460 percent difference in annual cost of administration per database.
• Lower maintenance costs: SQL Server first-year maintenance costs are up to 77% less than those of the largest competitor.
• Lower storage costs: Storage costs can be dramatically reduced through SQL Server 2012 compression and X-IO Hyper ISE technology, which combines Solid State Drives (SSDs) and Hard Disk Drives (HDDs).

These benchmark results show that Redknee’s solution, with Microsoft, NEC, Intel and X-IO, can support the volumes of the largest communications service providers and meet their cost-efficiency requirements.
